TiasNimbas Finance Student Shibashish Mukherjee Goes the ‘Research’ Way

In many ways the interesting division of coursework into part exam and part group work and/or individual assignments helped the entire learning process and sparked my interest into the field of research. The right blend of course work that included understanding theories and its practical applications followed by impact assessment through case studies helped me learn about each subject in a constructive manner. In the group work or individual assignments I especially enjoyed the research part and voluntarily undertook the roles of the researcher while task was being divided among the group members.

The group work also helped me understand the work culture of people from different nationalities and increased socializing opportunities with my fellow group mates after a hard day’s work. I must admit, a lot of these group works was later translated into late night dinners and parties with international and Dutch students. In retrospect the friendships I made and connections I created during my studies will help me explore new opportunities and stay in contact with people all around the world for the rest of my life. I think these friends and contacts will be the most invaluable asset I will take with me from TiasNimbas apart from the knowledge and the degree.

TiasNimbas Business School’s lecturers, staff and my fellow students helped me turn the vision of my future into reality. I will graduate from TiasNimbas this December but the spirit, energy and memory of the school will forever remain with me.

Introducing Our New Programme Adviser, Maeve Innes

I have recently taken over the role of Programme Adviser for Full-Time MA in International Business and Marketing Management and MSc in Financial Management. My job is to assist and guide prospective students through the admission proccess.

What I have noticed and enjoyed mostly in my short time here is the high amount of interaction between students, faculty and staff. This, and the charming building and area make it a pleasure to come to work. I look forward to aiding and welcoming new students on to their Masters here at TiasNimbas.

TiasNimbas Announces New Dean and President

The dean of TiasNimbas, Philippe Naert, retired at the end of 2008 and TiasNimbas has appointed two people to take over his position; Ramon O'Callaghan will be our new dean and Rob van den Bergh will take the position of president. Both will start with TiasNimbas in February 2009.

Marketing Students Assist at Master Fair in Germany

On 19 and 20 November 2008 TiasNimbas participated in the Hobson's Career Fair (Absolventenkongress) in Cologne, Germany. Our current full-time MA student, Franziska Pochhammer joined me and my fellow TiasNimbas colleagues at the fair to inform people about our master programmes.

Franziska is from Germany and I really appreciated her friendly and professional way in approaching people who are looking for a master degree. She did a fantastic job in sharing both the details on the master programmes as well as her experiences as a foreign student in The Netherlands.

What I Get Up for in the Morning (Apart from Chocolate)

Hi, I am Hetty van Roozendaal, director of the master programmes. I’ve been in education for 30 years and I like seeing students embark on new things.

At TiasNimbas we have some students with no working experience who are preparing to start their career and we also have young professionals with some working experience who want to begin a new career. What I enjoy is the challenge of designing and executing a programme that allows people to grow, to live up to their potential. I think an education can make a difference.

An education is more than just the gaining of knowledge. A bad leader doesn’t go wrong for lack of knowledge, but for lack of personal leadership. I really think that we at TiasNimbas can make the difference.

We support you to develop not only as a professional but also as a person, to take the step in your career that fits you best, to find out what type of place and position suits you most. We want to support you in that process. We like being there for you - I like being there for you. I have daughters that are approximately your age and I’d want them to receive the same level of attention at their schools that we give our students. (That's one reason why I give students my personal mobile telephone number for emergencies.)

We have students from all over the world, all with different needs, hopes and wishes who come here for a very intensive year of study. We not only get to know each other during the year, but we often stay in touch after graduation. Not just because we offer that service, but also because we've become colleagues. (I still have contact with a lot of my former students for example via LinkedIn.)

All of these people, all of these adventures, all of these talks or coaching, and of course the final results of a degree and a career - to know that it's possible to make a difference in our students' lives, that is what I get up for in the morning.

My name is Gretchen van der Spek and I am the Recruitment & Admissions Manager of the MA and MSc programmes at TiasNimbas Utrecht Campus.
