As project manager for a new team situated Bangkok, Jeroen Jonkers's first week in the IT department ‘Global Supply’ was an opportunity to use what he learned both from the TiasNimbas experience of working with international students and from lectures on company culture/national culture.
With a bachelor in industrial design, a master in international business and marketing management and a dissertation on idea generation, IT might not seem like the next step. But, as Jeroen explains, "TiasNimbas brought me a different perspective on the world, business life and the people around me. The chance to learn and look around inside a business like NXP (37,000 employees in 21 countries across the world) and an opportunity to work with people on the other side of the globe should not be missed."
After graduation, Jeroen was offered a two-year management traineeship with coaching from ORMIT during 4 challenging projects within interesting companies.
Today he is in the 3rd month of the first project with NXP Semiconductors where his responsibilities include preparing and onboarding new tasks to a team with three main functions for the IT organisation:
- a controlling and reporting function on IT services delivered by third parties
- creation of an information desk enabling managers of outsourced IT services to communicate changes to the global IT organisation and the ‘end-user helpdesks’
- onboarding a list of (new) administrative tasks
Jeroen said, "I now have a better understanding of the business environment and the need and logic for its different strategies."
